We found these in Istanbul, and they’re the most authentic version of traditional Turkish lokum we’ve been able to get in the States. The jellies are tangy with mellow fruit flavors—the sour cherry, strawberry, apricot and orange reminded us of high-end gummy bears or jelly beans. But their pleasant sweetness isn’t overpowering, unlike American fruit candies or sugary-sweet mass-produced versions of this Turkish classic. You’ll love sinking your teeth into their chewy, supple texture.
[/description-break]
Ingredients [/title]
Ingredients: Sugar, Cornstarch, Water, Acidity Regulator (Cream of Tartar), Fruit (%5) [Sour Cherry, Strawberry, Apricot, Candied Orange Peel (Orange Peel, Sugar)], Artificial Flavoring (Sour Cherry, Strawberry, Apricot, Orange), Artificial Colors
Allergens: Red #40[/accordion] Specifications [/title]
Net Weight: 325 grams
Place of Origin: Turkey [/accordions-break]
Confectioner in Chief.[/banner_heading]
When Haci Bekir Effendi, founder of Haci Bekir, set up shop in Istanbul, he was relying on traditional sweeteners and ingredients for his Turkish delight. However, with the rise of refined sugar and cornstarch—a then experimental product from a German scientist—he modified the recipe for Turkish delight, developing the classic sweet flavor and jelly texture known and loved today. This secret recipe grew so popular and beloved that Sultan Mahmud II, the ruler of the Ottoman Empire, appointed Bekir Effendi chief confectioner to the palace.[/banner-text-break
//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0842/3964/6957/files/haci-bekir-turkish-delight-assorted-fruit-flavors-hacibekir-700689_ad43f12e-d36b-4615-842e-d278f0aa7be7.jpg?v=1793446464
